Traveller Information Services and systems address abnormal and crisis situations to ensure EU road users safety. MedTIS road operators deliver the most relevant and quality-driven ITS services towards EU road users. They take onboard European standards with regards to local context and constraints.
Providing event information and warnings to EU road users thus improving the safety and the efficiency of the network and the travelling experience of road users
A traffic disturbance can spontaneously develop into a traffic bottleneck due to abrupt reactions of not-informed drivers. However, if those drivers knew the upcoming traffic situation in advance they would be prepared and could pro-actively adapt their speed and following distance, thus preserving smooth, stable and safe traffic flow.
Delivering high-level services by deploying a high-level supporting infrastructure
Upgraded Traffic Control Centres have the capacity to collect integrate and process large amount of traffic data: all types of sensors, IP, mobile and personal devices, etc. With a global perspective extra interoperable data is provided by and distributed to neighbouring road operators notably using DATEX 2 standard. It ensures a coordinated management of the network and the continuous and accurate information display to road users. This consolidated and processed data is the core material for road operators to make decisions and activate the relevant TIS measures.
Upgrading Traveller Information availability by enhancing Traveller Information dissemination website coverage and availability, mobile devices display, in-vehicle information, dedicated information for special vehicles.
These Traveller Information Services will make road users react and adapt their driving behaviour to the traffic conditions. They contributes to improve:
- a higher level of safety
- environmental performance
- a higher level network efficiency
- travel time reduction (decrease of loss hours).
